out of our minds

I have been saying for a while that I think our small water issue in the basement is directly from the the bathroom. Not knowing a lot about these things, I figured it was going behind the bathroom tiles in the shower stall, and hence ending up in the basement. Sounds logical to me. So we talked about my friend's uncle doing a replacement of our pipes, the tub and then the plastic surround. This same friend, saw a Home Depot ad with lots of good bathroom goodies on sale and promptly shared it with me. (It goes down hill from here folks)

We go to Home Depot, poor Owen slept through the whole trip in the cart. We picked out a toilet, which we have been talking about replacing since we moved in almost a year ago. Of course they had sink/vanity combos in sale. A cute one that included a little mirror as well. Picked out a cute and cheap brushed nickel faucet too. Jason had to go back for the sink/vanity combo a few days later, as they were currently out of stock. quite frankly we were out of room in his car to take it home!I don't consider myself to be "unhandy". But let's face it, I have not a clue what I am doing.Saturday morning, we are talking about starting the toilet replacement. This turns into Jason stating (and totally right-ughhh) that if ever a time to take out the hideous pink tile, now's the time. Oy vey. So we go to town on this tile. This pink, PLASTIC, nasty glue smelling tile. At some point we had talked about the floor. Sure we already have the walls looking like crap, let's talk about ripping something else up! According to the house inspectors, this concrete floor, would be impossible to take up. Except it is mini ceramic tiles, in a mesh holder on the ground, and came right up by the bathtub. Ding Ding. we have a winner. Found the place where water is going. I could go on forever, we all know this. But you get the point. We have one bathroom. We have this grandiose idea that we are going to redo/replace all these things ourselves AND have no experience. Thank God the the internet and Lowe's DIY videos :) If I figure out how to add pics, they will be added for your entertainment.

edit: pics added below! Me taking out the lovely tile:and Jas with his new toy:

Did I mention now may NOT be the best time for such a project??!

  1. Hahaha, love the pics! We do this all the time, too. Every minor project turns into a major one when we realize that as long as we're doing *blank,* we might as well also *blank.* Before you know it, you've totally torn up a whole area of your home. Can't wait to see how it looks when it's all done!
