I had to work a half day on Christmas Eve. My Dad took Jason and Owen bowling (again without me) while I was at work. We had lunch, Owen napped, and then it was off to Dad George's house. Owen had such a blast with all the different kids that were there, but especially his cousin Madelyn. Those 2 are peas in a pod. Madelyn is about 1.5 yrs old than he is and they get along wonderfully!
We spent the night and woke up and opened presents with the whole family. We packed up and headed home for showers and a snack, Owen had a chance to open his big present, which is a keyboard with its own stand and stool. It also has a "scratch" wheel and microphone. We had a few minutes to put it together, and then tore him away to go to Grandmas house (jason's mom).
Lots of Jason's family was there, and it was wonderful to see everyone there. The display of food was wonderful, as was the display of gifts! Owen made out like a bandit, and Amelia even got things from Grandma as well! My favorite "girl" outfits so far!
We scrambled out of there because my parents were scheduled to come over for 6, and we got home around 6:30, so they chilled for a little. (we even forgot a whole bad of gifts at Grandmas!)
My parents brought over roast beef in the crock pot and my dad made au "rotten" potatoes for the first time. We still were waiting on my sister (who worked all day), so we opened some gifts (sent Jason back to Grandmas to get Owen's Wii game), and then once we finished presents, ate a late Christmas dinner.
Family and gifts are nice, but after being a mom, it truly overwhelms me. Sometimes to the point that I end up in tears after. So as much as I love and appreciate all our families, I am also glad there are only a few days of cramming 3 different families into 1 (or sometimes 2) days.
It is just not feasible at this point in our lives to host the holidays, but that may be something that we will consider in the next 5-10 years depending on the road life takes us!
We are thankful for all the gifts, but wonder how we will fit all that stuff and the 2 kids in my car next year!?!! Chuck (jason's stepdad) and I joked that there could be a rack on the car, but for the gifts or for the kids :)
